Most patients find the LaseMD ULTRA treatment comfortable, which allows it to be completed quickly. Many people schedule their session during a lunch break or after work with minimal disruption to their day.
After treatment, you may notice some redness, which typically settles by the following day. Makeup can be applied starting the day after your session, and most patients begin to see results within a few days. Patients who receive a deeper treatment setting may have a slightly longer recovery period.
LaseMD ULTRA uses a 1927 nm wavelength laser to resurface the skin at both the epidermal and dermal layers. Most patients describe the sensation as a warm, tingling feeling. Treatment time ranges from 10 to 20 minutes or longer depending on the area being covered. Immediately after, you will notice some redness that typically lessens within a day. Over the following 5 to 6 days, your skin may have a dry, sandpaper-like texture as it exfoliates to reveal fresher, clearer skin underneath.
Most patients experience minimal downtime. Redness typically fades within 24 hours, and you can return to your normal routine the following day. For the first 5 to 6 days, your skin will feel dry and slightly textured as it exfoliates. This is completely normal and resolves on its own. Most patients go back to work the next day with no issue.
You should avoid direct sun exposure following your treatment and apply a mineral-based sunscreen to protect the skin while it heals. If you have a beach trip, outdoor event, or vacation planned, we recommend scheduling your treatment at least one to two weeks in advance. LaseMD ULTRA is safe to perform year-round, so we can work around your schedule.
The number of sessions depends on your skin goals and starting point. Some patients see significant improvement after a single session. For more advanced concerns like hyperpigmentation, melasma, or acne scarring, a series of treatments is typically recommended. Come to your appointment with clean, makeup-free skin. Avoid retinols or tretinoin (Retin-A) for one week before your session. If you have a history of Herpes Simplex or Shingles, please let your provider know in advance, as a preventive medication may be needed before treatment.
For the first week following treatment, avoid glycolic acid, exfoliants, and products containing salicylic acid or alcohol. Avoid direct sun exposure and apply a mineral-based sunscreen daily. Do not apply makeup for the first 24 hours.
